Our story

Rooted in quality, transparency and community

Our mission is rooted in quality, transparency, and sustainable development, especially in empowering both youth and women. Through training, sourcing, and education, we support local communities while delivering exceptional specialty coffee.

We don't buy from a screen. In early 2026 our founders were back on the ground in Kenya, walking the farms, cupping new lots with the graders and sitting down with the women's groups we work with.

  • Based in Maroubra, Sydney, supplying roasters across Australia
  • Direct partnerships with farmer cooperatives and estates in Kenya
  • Specialty grade: every lot cupped to 82+ before export
  • A share of profits reinvested in youth and women

Meet the founders

The people behind Mambo Leo

Two founders, two homes and one shared idea: Kenyan green coffee with a connection to where it comes from.

Nathan, co-founder of Mambo Leo Coffee

Co-founder

Nathan

Coffee was part of my story long before Mambo Leo had a name.

I'm Nathan. I grew up around coffee in Kenya and now call Australia home. I work as an Environmental Health Officer, but coffee has always had my attention.

With Mambo Leo, I'm taking something familiar from home and sharing it with Australian roasters: Kenyan green coffee, with a connection to where it comes from.

I want to build a business worth being part of—for the roasters buying our beans and the women and young people building their futures back home.

Erin, co-founder of Mambo Leo Coffee

Co-founder

Erin

I'm Erin. I'm a teacher, a keen coffee drinker and part of the story behind Mambo Leo.

Coffee has always been something I enjoy. With Mambo Leo, I get to take that interest further—and bring something of myself to the business.

I care about women having a voice and young people having choices. As we share Kenyan coffee with Australian roasters, I want those ambitions to have a place in how we grow.

My hope is to help build something that people can make their own future in.

How we work

Every bag, followed from farm to roastery

We work directly with cooperatives, so we can tell you which region, which washing station and which harvest your coffee came from. These are the five stages each lot passes through.

  1. Green Kenyan coffee farm landscape under a cloudy highland sky
    1

    Highland farms

Smallholder cooperatives and estates between 1,500 and 2,100 m in the Central and Rift Valley regions.

  2. A farmer's hand holding freshly picked red coffee cherries
    2

    Selective harvest

Only ripe cherries are hand-picked, then pulped and washed at the cooperative station within hours.

  3. Parchment coffee drying on raised beds
    3

    Sun drying & milling

Parchment is dried on raised beds to 11% moisture, rested, then milled and screened into AA, AB, PB and C.

  4. Mambo Leo founders cupping coffee samples with professional graders at a lab in Kenya
    4

    Cupped & graded

Women and youth on our quality team cup every lot. Nothing under 82 points is offered to our roasters.

  5. Rows of 60 kg jute coffee bags stacked in an export warehouse
    5

    Export to Australia

Packed in 60 kg jute or hermetic bags to Kenyan Export Standards and shipped to Sydney for your roastery.

Want the full story behind a lot? Ask for the traceability sheet with your sample. It lists the region, cooperative, harvest window, grade and cupping notes.
